Today is National Jelly Bean Day (NJBD). Who knew there was such a thing?! According to the National Confectioners Association, there are a plethora of fun candy holidays throughout the year, including one I’m quite sad to have missed back on January 8th: National English Toffee Day.
So what will I do to celebrate NJBD? Why, eat jelly beans, of course! I do like jelly beans, but only certain brands really tickle my taste buds. Jolly Rancher beans are the juiciest, in my opinion, the flavors so bold as to leave your mouth watering even once you’ve swallowed the little devils. There’s also the Jelly Belly brand, which is awesomely amazing for the fact that you can mix and match flavors to make new combinations.
Generally, I’m a bit of a purist when it comes to flavors, but I do like to mix it up once in a while. Buttered Popcorn, Watermelon, Caramel Corn, A&W Root Beer, Strawberry Daiquiri …. I could live on them for at least a few days. None of the sour or spicy flavors for me, I prefer salty and sweet.
I guess if I was truly devoted to jelly beans, I would have whipped up one of the confections showcased on the Today show website, but apparently I’m not. Maybe next year. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to raid The Boy’s bunny basket and have some jelly beans for desert….
