I’ve been absent from this space for the last couple of months because I’ve been hibernating.
One of the definitions of “hibernation” is “to withdraw or be in seclusion.” Every January, I try to remove myself from the daily insanity of connectedness to discourse with myself and ensure that my life is proceeding in the direction I want and need. I’ve been cleaning house this summer, and as I clear out my books, one of the things I’ve noticed is that I have an extraordinary number of self-help books. I’m not talking a few, I’m talking dozens. I’ve probably invested many hundreds of dollars, possibly thousands, in these little tomes of wisdom over the years. Continue reading
I belong to a book club. We meet once a month throughout the year, taking a break only in July when most people’s summer plans tend to get in the way, and in December when we all go out to dinner in lieu of meeting at somebody’s home and deconstructing our latest read. The group of women who comprise the “membership” are a fantastic bunch. Accomplished and bright women all, each has her own unique brand of grace and charm, and I am honored to call them my friends. There are so many websites that post discussion ideas, blog post ideas, article ideas, photo challenges and the like during the week between Christmas and the new year that it’s sometimes overwhelming and hard to distinguish what is actually worthwhile.
